Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp recently distributed grant checks from the Florida Disaster Recovery Fund to five long-term recovery organizations (LTROs) assisting households experiencing the most damage from Tropical Storm Fay. Three counties received implementation funding following a start-up planning and preparation period. They are Brevard Long-term Recovery Organization, $100,000; St. Lucie Inspired Network to Achieve Community Together, $99,984; and Volusia Interfaiths/Agencies Networking in Disaster, $100,000.
These LTROs have inventoried the damage in their counties and estimated the cost to meet needs not met through other resources. Their direct assistance will include clean-up and repair of homes through purchasing materials and directing the work of volunteers.
Two additional LTROs received grants of $25,000 short-term, start-up funding to put together their recovery systems. They are North Florida Coalition on Recovery and Seminole H.E.A.R.T., Home-based Emergency Assistance Response Team.
The Lt. Governor also met with Brevard County survivors of the storm. He said, “The most challenging part of a tropical storm like Fay is often the weeks and months of recovery that follow. These grants, made possible by generous businesses and individuals, will help survivors rebuild their communities and businesses.”
The counties served are those determined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as suffering the most damage from Tropical Storm Fay.
